John G. Stewart

January 1, 1956 — June 4, 2026

Ringoes, NJ

John G. Stewart, age 70 years, of West Amwell Township, NJ, passed away on Thursday morning, June 4, 2026, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. Born on January 1, 1956, in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Samuel Stewart and Marilyn (Monfort) Stewart.

John was a 1974 graduate of Hunterdon Central Regional High School. He then ventured to San Rafael, California, where he was employed as a machinist. Some years later he returned to Hunterdon County, NJ to be closer to family.

He was a long-time employee for Mechanical Precision, Inc, in Flemington, NJ, eventually retiring in 2025.

His affiliations included the Croton Road & Gun Club, Croton, NJ as well as the American Legion Post 120, Lambertville, NJ, where he acted as SAL Commander.

John was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman; fishing was his passion. This included frequent trips to all of the local fishing holes, especially the Musconetcong River. He enjoyed fluke fishing, bass fishing, and especially trout fishing. In fact, he took pride in teaching all of his nephews how to fish by taking them out and buying their first rods, jackets, and licenses.

Furthermore, he was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan and San Francisco Giants fan, rooting for San Francisco greats, Joe Montana and Buster Posey. Finally, he could always be found mowing his lawn with his John Deere hat on and a Yuengling in his hand.

Moreover, John was an animal lover. Over the course of his life, he and his wife, Sue, had several Dachshunds and a Basset Hound.

John was friendly, easy-going and always enjoyed life. Dependable as they come, he was a friend to everybody, especially his family. He will be missed by all.

In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his sister, Susan F. Strober Comerford, and his aunt, Joni Craig. He was also preceded in death by his canine companions, Tucker, Sophie, and Frankie.

Surviving are his beloved wife of 13 years, Susan (Bruno) Stewart, of West Amwell Township, NJ; his siblings and their spouses, Glenn and Cindy Stewart, of Manahawkin, NJ, Gordon and Shelly Stewart, of Washington, NJ; and Susan Scarborough, of Vineland, NJ. Additionally, he leaves behind many nephews, nieces, and cousins who will carry his memory forward. Finally, he leaves behind his "precious babies", Remington the Basset Hound and Tiny the Turtle.
