Doris Marie Russell

July 23, 1936 — March 2, 2026

Long Valley, NJ

Doris Marie Russell (née Fields), a beloved matriarch and homemaker, passed away peacefully at her son's home on Monday evening, March 2, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on July 23, 1936, in Flemington, NJ, Doris was the daughter of the late Marshall W. Fields and Carolyn (Snyder) Fields. She was a proud member of the community where she grew up on the family farm and later raised her own family. A 1954 graduate of Flemington High School, she remained a lifelong New Jersey resident.

Doris met Robert G. Russell, Sr., the love of her life, at a high school dance, and they shared a magical bond that lasted for over sixty years. They enjoyed dancing together gracefully at family gatherings, creating cherished memories that their children and grandchildren will forever hold dear.

Doris was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children, Rob (Mary) Russell and Debbie (Kerry) Smith, along with nine grandchildren who lovingly referred to her as "Grammy": Bobby (Julie), Claire, Elizabeth, Priscilla, Bonnie, Tim, Nicole, Heather, and Ashley. She was also a doting great-grandmother to seven great-grandchildren who called her "Great-Grammy": Logan, Liam, Reagan, Deacon, Lincoln, Elleanna, and Maya. Additionally, many other nieces, nephews, and friends considered her as "Grammy" as well. Doris found immense joy in spending time with her family and Sunday dinners were a highlight for all. She created beautiful memories, including trips to Disney with her family and proudly witnessing her granddaughters graduate from esteemed universities like Marywood University, James Madison University, and the University of Kansas.

An avid bowler, Doris participated in leagues and tournaments nationwide, forming lasting friendships throughout her bowling journey. She found joy in simple pleasures such as crocheting, reading James Patterson crime thrillers, and watching game shows, especially "25 Words or Less" and "Wheel of Fortune." Her personality radiated warmth, and she was always eager to welcome family and friends into her life.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert G. Russell, Sr., who passed away in 2018, as well as her son, Scott Russell, who died in November 2025. She was also predeceased by her siblings: Sonny, Kenneth, and Barbara.

Visitation will take place on Thursday evening, March 5, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, located at 147 Main St, Flemington, NJ.
