Theodore Allison Fellows, age 94 years, of Union Township, NJ, passed away Easter morning, Sunday, March 31, 2024, at the Hunterdon Care Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Orange, MA, February 6, 1930, he was the son of the late Archie and Vida Annie (Brown) Fellows. He resided for most of his life in Massachusetts, before moving to Little River, SC, then Corning, NY, and finally Hunterdon County, NJ in 2019 to be closer to his family.
As one of fourteen siblings, from a young age Ted learned the meaning of responsibility and hard work on the family farm. While in high school during the 1940s, he earned enough at after-school jobs to purchase the family’s first washing machine and refrigerator. He enjoyed building stone walls, many of which still stand, everywhere he lived. Gardening became a lifelong passion.
As a young man, Ted served on active duty in the United States Army in occupied Germany during the Korean War from 1951-1953. When he was in the service, he sent most of his pay home to his family; a treat was visiting the local bakery near the barracks.
Ted was energetic and active until he was 89 years old. He held numerous jobs throughout his life. A lithographer by trade, he worked for several printing companies in the northeast, then at Chase Machine, Athol, MA repairing sawmill blades, returning to Book Press in Brattleboro, VT at the end of his career. His work ethic and productivity were second to none wherever he was employed.
Ted was a long-time member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church of Warwick, MA where he helped to build a new sanctuary and was a trustee; and the First Congregational UCC of Corning, NY, where he enjoyed the church community. He was also a member of the Warwick Lions Club. In his spare time, Ted and his late wife, Marge, enjoyed going for long drives, this included three trips across the United States and back.
Above all, his family will remember what a gentle, kind, and generous man he was. Someone who was always willing to pitch in and lend a hand.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, the late Marjorie J. (Carey) Fellows, who died in 2019; as well as eleven siblings.
Surviving are his daughter, Carrie Fellows, and son-in-law, Mark Texel, of Union Township, NJ; two grandchildren, Jacob and Andrew Texel of Michigan; two brothers, Calvin Fellows and his wife Fredericka, of Warwick, MA and Warren Fellows and his wife Fern, of West Paris, ME; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
A Celebration of Life will take place later in 2024 at the Trinitarian Congregational Church (UCC) of Warwick, MA, 32 Athol Road, Warwick, MA 01378. Interment will follow in the family plot at Warwick Cemetery, Orange Road (Route 78) Warwick, Massachusetts. Service updates will be available on this webpage when they are finalized.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Ted’s name may be made to the Trinitarian Congregational Church (UCC) of Warwick, MA, 32 Athol Road, Warwick, MA 01378 or to the Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601.
