Susan C. Gillett, born on June 20, 1940, in Manasquan, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey. She embraced life with enthusiasm and passion, leaving behind a legacy marked by her dedication and warmth.
Her professional life was only one aspect of her multifaceted existence; she was also known for her love of learning, having graduated from Manasquan High School and returned to complete her Associates degree in her mid-30s. This commitment to education reflected her belief in growth and personal development, values she instilled in those around her. Susan worked for some time as a Data Processor for ADT, where she tirelessly contributed her skills and knowledge.
A nurturing spirit, Susan had a renowned green thumb and her home was a vibrant sanctuary filled with various plants that she lovingly cared for. Her passion for gardening was rivaled only by her affection for her many cats, who were cherished companions throughout her life. Susan’s home was a reflection of her personality, warm and inviting, a testament to her generous heart.
She enjoyed the thrill of competition, often playing Bridge with her husband, a game that showcased her strategic mind and love for camaraderie. Susan also engaged in bowling and round-robin ladies tennis, activities that brought her joy and connection with friends and family alike.
A gifted writer at heart, Susan spent time crafting essays that mirrored her keen observations and reflections on life. Her intellect was matched by a love for stories, particularly murder-mystery novels, with Stephen King and Dean Koontz standing out as some of her favorite authors. Whether crocheting or lost in a good book, Susan found pleasure in life's simple joys.
Susan was predeceased by her son, Stephen Herndon, who passed away in 2000, as well as her husband, Robin Gillett, who passed away in 2023, and her granddaughter, Lauren Ashley Moore, in 2005.
Among her survivors are her daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mike Wagner of Readington Township, NJ and her daughter, Jennifer Herndon of Kintnersville PA; as well as her granddaughter and her husband, Shannon (Moore) and Andrew Mercado.
Cremation services and interment in St. Bernard Cemetery in Bridgewater, NJ are private under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822.
