Steven Mauricio Montero-Blanco

September 8, 1997 — June 26, 2022

Steven Mauricio Montero-Blanco, age 24, of Flemington, NJ, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022, at 4:00 pm in RWJ-New Brunswick hospital. Steven came into this world on September 8, 1997, in San Jose, Costa Rica, and was raised by his mother, Guadalupe Blanco, step-father Jeudy Solis, and father, Jose Montero. Steven and his family moved to New Jersey when he was six. He graduated from Hunterdon Central Regional High School in 2016, studied at Divers Academy International, and became certified as an underwater welder on April 2, 2018. However, one of Steven's most significant accomplishments was becoming a citizen of the United States on January 20, 2022.

Steven had worked throughout the local community, beginning by volunteering at Hunterdon Medical Center in the hospice unit. Afterward, he went on to work at ShopRite of Flemington, Matt's Red Rooster Grill, and Little Brothers Liquor Store. He even attempted to join the US Army, something he had wanted since he was very young. But unfortunately, due to scoliosis, he could not join. After receiving his diploma, he worked in the Portadam union, where he was excited to take on his career as an underwater welder. He came across many more hobbies after that and worked as an international assistant at Kuhl Corp, enjoyed being a salesman at the Bridgewater Nissan (or at least tried), and also worked at 3M. His final place of work was Thermo-Fisher Scientific as an administrative service coordinator.

Steven was always hustling and provided exemplary effort in his work life, but he had many other hobbies he enjoyed when he was not working. As the oldest brother of three girls, he enjoyed playing with the little one and going out to dinner with the oldest two. He enjoyed taking his little stud, Zeus, or "son", as he would put it out for walks and going for hikes in the Pocono Mountains. On the weekends, he enjoyed the thrill of going go-kart racing, always trying to get in 1st place, going to the beach, always seen wearing his sunglasses, and enjoying the tediousness of fixing watches from the collection he was working on. In addition, he had a passion for boxing and going to the gym, and even participated in a bodybuilding competition in 2016 for NJ and came in 2nd place for the teen category. To unwind, he enjoyed learning to play the piano and free-styling with it, listening to different music, and playing video games with his best friend, Danny.

Steven had a contagious smile. Someone who is remembered for his humor and always trying to make everyone laugh. He was a selfless, protective soul and cared for others, making sure everyone he cared about was good. His determination and ambition for greatness pushed others to do the same, and he could spread his kindness around while also being able to tell people how it is. He was empathetic and wise, resulting in the best advice, no matter how many times he had to repeat it. He was always happy to be a listening ear and show his affection and support with an unconditional, loving heart. He taught us that living in our head takes away from living in the moment and enjoying time with the people we care for. There is always time to make room for love. He has shown the importance of being there for one another, not just when it looks like it's needed, but always. Though no longer physically here, he rests in paradise as we carry his memories and lessons to live with us forever.

Steven was predeceased by his biological father, Jose, and grandma Daisy. He is survived by his mother, Guadalupe; his step-father, Jeudy; his sisters, Katiusca, Zayre, and Abby; his fur baby, Zeus; and several cousins, aunts, and friends.
