Steven R. Hendershot, beloved husband, father, coach and educator, passed away on May 14, 2025, in Flemington, NJ, at the age of 54. Born on April 18, 1971, Steven's life was defined by his unwavering devotion to teaching, coaching, and his family.
Steven began his career in education as a teacher's aide before enrolling in the Alternate Route Program. He made a significant impact working for the Education Services Commission at the Sand Hill Campus and later at the Tewksbury Campus as a Special Education and English teacher. For the last 25 years, he served as a teacher and administrator at Ridge High School in Basking Ridge, NJ, where he was best known for mentoring countless students.
An accomplished scholar, Steven graduated from North Hunterdon Regional High School in 1989, where he showcased his athleticism as a three-sport athlete in football, wrestling, and baseball. He pursued higher education at George Mason University and earned a Bachelor's Degree from the former Trenton State College. His commitment to education continued as he received a Master's Degree from Seton Hall University and later from Jersey City University, with a specialization in Special Education.
Throughout his life, Steven was a devoted family man. He was married to Tracy C. (Dennis) Hendershot for 28 wonderful years. Together, they created cherished memories, particularly during their Caribbean cruises and leisurely walks at Spruce Run with their beloved German Shepherd, Buddy. Steven took pride in nurturing his "backyard oasis" where he enjoyed hours of bird watching. His passion for sports was evident as a dedicated fan of the Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies.
A notable coach, Steven began his coaching journey at Delaware Valley High School and Hunterdon Central Regional High School, and then for many years at Ridge High School, where he dedicated himself to coaching football and wrestling. Notably, he had the privilege of coaching his son, Jacob R. Hendershot, beginning in Little League and continuing through high school athletics.
Steven is survived by his loving wife, Tracy; his son, Jacob R. Hendershot of Crofton, MD; and his mother, Susan (Campbell) Hendershot. He is also remembered by his nieces, Alisha and her husband, Rafal Rak of Bangor, PA, and Brianna Dennis of Rhode Island, along with his faithful companion, Buddy. He is preceded in death by his father, Raymond E. Hendershot, Jr., who passed away in 2013.
A viewing will take place on May 22, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, located at 147 Main St, Flemington, NJ, followed by a funeral service at the funeral home on the same day at 7:00 PM, celebrated by the Rev.
