Samuel Ronald (first known as "Ronny" and later “Sam”) Hall, a lifelong (and third-generation) resident of Hunterdon County, New Jersey, passed away on April 15, 2026, at the Rolling Hills Care Center in Lebanon, NJ. He was 91 years old. Ronny/Sam was born on February 17, 1935, in Three Bridges, NJ, to the late Samuel D. and Helen (Polhemus) Hall. An enthusiastic member of the Hunterdon County community, Ronny/Sam was known for his outgoing caring nature, entrepreneurial spirit, broad array of volunteer activities and wide circle of friends.
Ronny/Sam was a 1953 graduate of Flemington High School. He began work in textile manufacturing but by his account soon saw it was not for him. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1955. After boot camp at Parris Island, he was primarily stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina, and Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, South Carolina, where he became an aircraft mechanic and learned to weld. After honorable discharge in 1959, he returned to Flemington and married Helen M. (Hubert) Hall. He worked for several local businesses before eventually starting his own business, Sam Hall Welding Service in Flemington, NJ, which he ran tirelessly until retirement at age 72.
Ronny/Sam was a lifelong member of the Three Bridges Reformed Church. He served in many capacities including as a Sunday School teacher, deacon, and elder. He volunteered regularly, sleeping at the local homeless shelter, and joining mission trips to work with communities in the Caribbean and Appalachia to repair homes and schools.
Once retired, Ronny/Sam was a committed member of the Hunterdon County Bulldogs Marine Corps League (Detachment #927) in Flemington, receiving multiple Community Service Commendations and the Distinguished Citizen Award in 2005 and Marine of the Year in 2007. He regularly participated in Toys for Tots. He also participated in other community programs, such as using his welding skills to convert rusted old mailboxes into new drop-boxes for worn flags for respectful disposal.
Ronny/Sam was an avid saltwater fisherman. From sleeping on the beach with friends to fish as a young man, teaching his children to clam on the Jersey Shore, owning his own boats and fishing on the Raritan Bay with friends and family, and travelling regularly with friends and family for deep sea fishing excursions in the Outer Banks and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. Ronny/Sam never passed up a good oyster or crawfish boil (the spicier the better).
Ronny/Sam was predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Helen M. Hall, who passed away in 2024, his eldest son Brian K. Hall who died in 2010, and his three brothers, including his brother Alan R. Hall who passed away in 1961, and twins who died in infancy.
Ronny/Sam is survived by his daughter, Lisa Zabel, and her husband Walter of Lake Mary, Florida; his son, Craig Hall, and wife, Tori Heid Hall of Bethesda, Maryland; and his grandchildren, Sammie Zabel, Jackson Hall, and Phoebe Hall. He also leaves behind three nephews, and numerous cousins and extended family.
