Robert Sharpe, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, pastor, musician, teacher, and servant of God, went home to be with the Lord on September 15, 2026, at the age of 63.
Robert was born on September 11, 1963, in Paterson, New Jersey, to Roberto and Maria Sharpe. He was the brother of Bill Sharpe and Mary Lindell.
Robert’s greatest love was his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. After graduating from Valley Forge Christian College, he dedicated his life to ministry and spent approximately 40 years serving God and His people. Together with his wife, Lydia, whom he married on August 20, 1988, Robert became a founding pastor of Worship Church.
Throughout his years of ministry, Robert carried a deep burden for those who did not yet know Jesus. He passionately believed that people needed to know the love of God and grow in the Word. He continually poured into the lives of others, helping people recognize their calling, gifts, and anointing. Robert had a unique ability to gather people around him and help them see the goodness of God.
Robert was also a church planter. During one season of ministry, Worship Church grew to nine campuses. Robert best described himself as “a voice of one crying out in the wilderness.” His ministry also extended far beyond the United States. He planted more than 100 churches in India, a ministry that continues to be supported and cared for today.
Music was another great gift and passion in Robert’s life. He was a gifted musician and songwriter who loved creating music that glorified God. At one point, Robert developed a large worship team that included a choir, drums, guitars, brass, wind instruments, and more. Robert was passionate about excellence in worship. He would spend Saturdays practicing with the team for more than six hours, listening carefully to every part because he knew exactly how he wanted each note to sound.
Robert was a lifelong learner. He was always reading and studying, especially the Bible, but also books that would help him grow in knowledge and understanding. He loved learning about new subjects and sharing what he learned with others. At one point in his life, Robert became interested in trading and the stock market. He enjoyed studying the markets and even started a business to teach others how to trade.
But perhaps one of Robert’s greatest callings was being a husband and father.
Robert and Lydia shared 38 years of marriage. Together they raised four sons: David Sharpe, married to Sarah; Joshua Sharpe, married to Victoria; Nathan Sharpe; and Jeremiah Sharpe, married to Chloe. Robert was also a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Ethan, Ezekiel, Ben, Hazel, Levi, and Skylar.
As a father, Robert was intentional about helping each of his sons discover who God had created them to be. He guided them toward their individual callings and taught them how to grow into the men God had called them to become. When his sons needed help understanding something, Robert had a special gift for breaking things down and explaining them in a way they could understand. He wanted his sons not only to succeed in life, but to know their identity, their purpose, and their responsibility as men.
Above all, Robert lived with a desire to see people transformed by the love and Word of God. His life was devoted to Jesus, his family, his church, and the people God placed in his path. He invested in people, believed in people, and helped them achieve their dreams as if they were his own.
Robert leaves behind a legacy that is not simply measured by the churches he planted, the music he created, or the people he taught. His greatest legacy is found in the lives he touched—the people who came to know Jesus, discovered their calling, found hope, and learned that their lives mattered.
He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Lydia; his four sons and their wives; his six grandchildren; his siblings and extended family; his church family; and the many people around the world whose lives were changed through his ministry.
Though our hearts grieve his absence, we hold on to the hope Robert preached throughout his life: that Jesus Christ is Lord, that death is not the end, and that those who belong to Him have the promise of eternal life.
Robert has finished his race, kept the faith, and gone home to be with his Lord.
