Richard G. Jefferson, of Annandale, NJ passed away on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ. He was 88.
Dick, as he was known to friends and family, was born on April 24th, 1938, to Clyde Jefferson and Josephine Betts Jefferson in Trenton, NJ. After graduating from the Peddie School in Hightstown in 1956, he went on to study English and pre-law at Cornell University and Earlham College. He continued his studies at Rutgers Law School, in Newark, where he earned his Juris Doctor and embarked on a career in law.
After graduation, Dick landed his first job as an attorney for Jefferson Law Offices in Flemington, NJ, working alongside his father for seven years. He eventually took over the law firm and continued practicing law until his retirement in 2013. In 1962, he met Priscilla Churchill, and they were wed in 1963, going on to have three sons.
Throughout the years, Dick became passionate about golf, beekeeping, singing in barbershop choruses, politics, and could often be found at the YMCA gym or the golf course when he was not at home. In addition, he was a long-time member of the Calvary Episcopal Church in Flemington, NJ, where he also sang in it's choir for many years.
Anyone who knew Dick knew that he loved his family and very much and enjoyed the visits from his sons after they moved away from Flemington, as well as visits from his grandchildren. Dick was predeceased in 2019 by Priscilla, his wife of 56 years, and his son, Jonathan, in 2015. He is survived by his sister, Anne Barnes of Houlton, Maine, and his sons, Timothy of Flemington, NJ and Richard, Jr. (Jeff) of Clinton Township, NJ. He also had two grandchildren, Andrew, of Saint Petersburg, Florida and Hannah (Patteson), of Greenville, South Carolina.
A memorial service, officiated by The Rev. Kyle Cuperwich, will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM in the Calvary Episcopal Church, 44 Broad Street, Flemington, NJ. Burial will take place in the church memorial garden immediately following the service.
