Silage Conveyor Accident
Kills Farmer Prall Bodine
Longtime dairy farmer Prall H. Bodine was killed Monday, Sept. 30, 1996, in a barnyard accident on his Sergeantsville Road farm. He was 61.
Mr. Bodine somehow got caught in a silage conveyor used to feed cows, township police said. He suffered severe head trauma. He was found by his nephew, Wesley Bodine Jr., around 9:30 a.m.
Mr. Bodine was pronounced dead at the scene. The accident is under investigation by township Patrolman David Schumacher, the county Prosecutor's Office and the medical examiner.
Mr. Bodine was born in Trenton, a son of Frank and Elizabeth Prall Bodine , and lived in Delaware Township all his life. He was a 1952 graduate of Lambertville High School and was a farmer all his life.
Mr. Bodine and his brother, Wesley Bodine , in February sold the development rights on their 210-acre farm to Hunterdon County through the Farmland Preservation Program.
They received nearly $900,000 for the rights to build on the property, which has been in the family for several generations. The farm is along Route 523 just north of Stockton.
In accepting the money, the Bodines agreed to deed restrictions keeping the land in agricultural purposes or open space in perpetuity.
Mr. Bodine is survived by his wife, Barbara Firczuk Bodine ; a son, Brian Hoge of Medford, Ore.; a daughter, Alison Brewer of Flemington; his brother, of Stockton, and a granddaughter.
Services are set for tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery.
