Patrick J. Sullivan, age 72 years, of Flemington Borough, NJ, a beloved figure and cherished friend, departed this world peacefully on January 11, 2026, at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ. Born on December 6, 1953, in Philadelphia, PA, he was the son of the late Michael and Elizabeth (Hesson) Sullivan. Patrick's life journey was one that he navigated with an indomitable spirit, rich stories, and a deep sense of love for those around him.
Affectionately called "Sully", he held various occupations throughout his life, including being a roofer. However, he dedicated a significant portion of his career as a security guard for the Hunterdon County Sheriff's Office, where he served proudly for the last 25 years, until his recent retirement.
Patrick was also a proud United States Marine Corps veteran, having served from 1972 to 1975 during the end of the Vietnam War, and continued his commitment in the reserves until 1978. His time as a US Embassy Guard in Guatemala and Ecuador was not just duty, but a chapter in his life that he regaled his friends with tales about, captivating all with his storytelling.
Sully remained deeply tied to his Philadelphia roots throughout his life. He was not only a man of countless experiences but also a philosopher at heart. His love for meaningful and profound conversations often made him a source of wisdom and guidance for many. His engaging personality as a storyteller and a ladies' man always drew people close, and Patrick thrived in the company of friends, leading discussions on everything from life’s intricacies to philosophical musings.
Patrick was a treasured member of the community, involved significantly with local organizations such as the Clinton Elks Lodge #2434, The American Legion, and Flemington VFW Post 7856, serving as the Post Jr. Vice Commander. He built relationships with many special friends throughout the years who will carry his memory with loving remembrance.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Susanne (Reed) Hee, and his brother, Charles “Sonny” Reed.
Among those left to honor his legacy are his dear niece and nephews: Katie Napolin, Joseph Hee, John Hee; as well as Katie Finch, who has been regarded as an honorary niece. Patrick's warm spirit will remain with them and all who knew him.
He was a man of passions—his love for music resonated through the melodies of Motown, The Supremes, Diana Ross, Mary Wilson, The Temptations, and Creedence Clearwater Revival; and he adored his TV shows, especially fond of Me TV and classic characters like John Wayne and Larry from The Three Stooges. He savored food, especially pumpkin pie, hot fudge sundaes, cheesecake with raspberry sauce, and drinks like Jameson, Tullamore D.E.W., and Yuengling. Moreover, he found joy in Jeopardy and trivia and in reading, particularly in "Inherit the Wind," making every moment an opportunity for growth and happiness.
Patrick lived by “the three B’s”: Be bright. Be brief. Be gone. However, his impact on everyone around him was anything but brief; it was profound and enduring. He taught us to cherish every day, asserting with a smile, "Live every day like it's your last, because one day you’ll be right."
Though he has left this earthly realm, the lessons learned and the love shared will forever resonate with those who were fortunate enough to know him. In a world that often rushes by, Patrick Sullivan stood as a beacon of diligence, laughter, and truth, and he will be dearly missed.
