Mimi Connell

October 25, 1941 — August 2, 2025

Flemington, NJ

Mimi Connell, 83, passed away peacefully in the early hours of August 2, 2025. A beloved and legendary dance teacher in Hunterdon County, Mimi shared the joy of dance and self-expression with thousands of students over a remarkable career that spanned more than six decades.

She dedicated those six decades to the Eleanor Connell School of Dance, carrying forward the legacy of her parents and transforming the studio into a treasured institution within the local arts community. Mimi became a cornerstone of dance education in the region, inspiring generations of students with her warmth, humor, and unwavering passion.

In addition to her work at the studio, Mimi served for more than 30 years as stage manager and choreographer at the Hunterdon Hills Playhouse, bringing musicals to life with the same creativity and energy that defined her career.

Mimi was also a devoted community volunteer, generously giving her time to local events, charitable causes, and arts initiatives throughout the county. Whether in the wings of a theater, the heart of a recital, or behind the scenes of a fundraiser, Mimi brought her trademark sparkle and tireless spirit.

Mimi is survived by her two daughters, April Woodhull and Kirsten Sham, and her grandchildren. April and her husband, Bronson, are the parents of Shawn and his wife, Amanda—along with their sons, Mimi’s beloved great-grandchildren, Oliver and Archer—Nick and his wife, Jaci, and Shelby and her fiancé, Kory Montoro. Kirsten and her husband, Peter, are the parents of Olivia and Orlando.

She is lovingly remembered by her niece, Sharon Fischer, and her nephew, David Olsher, the children of her late sister, Karen Connell. Additionally, she leaves behind her honorary son and dear friend, Donald Amorosi, with whom she shared many years of close friendship and creative collaboration.

As Martha Graham once said, “Great dancers are not great because of their technique. They are great because of their passion.” Mimi lived this truth every day of her life.

A celebration of Mimi’s life will be held at a later date. Her family invites all who knew and loved her to honor her memory with a smile, a song, or a simple dance step.

Arrangements and cremation services are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. For further information or to send an online condolence, please visit www.holcombefisher.com.
