Local golf professional, Michael F. Amorelli, age 98 years, died Monday, October 10, 2016 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township NJ. Mike was a resident of Palm Beach County, Florida, and Flemington NJ for many years.
Born July 5, 1918, in Jersey City NJ, Mike was the son of the late Antonio and Fontana Amorelli. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1945.
Mike received his initial PGA Golf Card at the age of 16 in 1934, and he was New Jersey’s oldest serving PGA member. Mike came to Copper Hill Country Club, Flemington, NJ in 1949, served for many years as the PGA Club Professional there and was later Director of Golf there and at the time of his death was Director of Golf Emeritus.
His wife, Margaret Britton Amorelli, died in 2009 and he was pre-deceased by his five siblings.
Surviving are his nephew, R. Stewart Douglas and his wife, Alicia, of Eatontown, NJ; his great nephew, William Douglas, and his great niece, Laura Douglas.
Memorial services will be held Friday, October 14, 2016, at 11:00 AM in the Flemington Baptist Church, 170 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington, NJ, under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Calling hours will be Friday, October 14, 2016, from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church.
