Matthew Edward Ciresa, age 66, of Whitehouse Station, NJ, passed away on December 24, 2025. Born on August 29, 1959, in Jersey City, NJ, Matthew lived a life characterized by professional achievement, personal passions, and the unwavering love for his children.
Matthew’s career was varied and fulfilling. He began his journey at Herman's Sporting Goods and then pivoted towards the corporate world, working as a computer programmer for Dun & Bradstreet and later for Merck Pharmaceutical. His desire for knowledge and growth led him to return to school to become a paralegal, showcasing his unyielding commitment to learning. In the latter part of his career, he retired as a United States Postal Mail Carrier in Bridgewater, NJ, a job he cherished for its community engagement and sense of service.
An avid reader and writer, Matthew had a talent for synthesizing complex ideas from abstract and metaphysical realms, reflecting his inquisitive nature. He possessed an insatiable, autodidactic curiosity, often diving into research across scientific, historical, and cultural topics. His interest in the outdoors brought him joy, especially during hikes at Round Valley Reservoir and long walks with his beloved Pitbull Terrier, Hesse. A community-oriented individual, Matthew relished moments spent chatting with neighbors and fellow dog walkers, as well as forging connections within his community.
Matthew was known for his appreciation of music, particularly rock bands like Tool, Metallica, and A Perfect Circle. Music was more than something he enjoyed; it was something he deeply connected to, finding meaning, emotion, and reflection through sound. His curiosity and admiration for the arts extended well beyond music and into film, which he loved with equal passion. Matthew had a deep fascination with movies and the way they explored human nature, morality, time, and purpose. Among his favorites were The Godfather, Apocalypse Now, and Interstellar, films that mirrored his appreciation for complexity, depth, and the lasting power of great storytelling..
Among Matthew's proudest accomplishments is his connection to all his children through athletics. Matthew was a devoted father whose greatest passion was standing beside his children as they pursued their athletic journeys. For nearly fifteen years, Matt trained alongside Lindsey, traveling across the country in steadfast support of her softball career, never missing an opportunity to encourage, coach, and believe in her. He spent countless hours on the baseball diamond with Eric, teaching, practicing, and celebrating every victory. With Kevin, Matt dedicated relentless time and energy to wrestling, offering discipline, strength, and perseverance through every challenge. More than wins or titles, Matt cherished the time, commitment, and bond built through sport, leaving a legacy of dedication, sacrifice, and unconditional love that will live on through his children.
The love of athletics did not stop with his children as he was a fervent supporter of the NJ Devils, Philadelphia 76ers, Dallas Cowboys, and particularly the St. Louis Cardinals, whose games he often followed passionately. Additionally, he found delight in the world of horse racing, spending countless hours at the track and stables. He was also relentlessly dedicated to maintaining his physical fitness through yoga and weight training, embodying a lifestyle that emphasized both mental and physical well-being
Matthew leaves behind a loving family, including his daughter, Lindsey Ciresa of Ewing, NJ; sons, Eric Ciresa of Roselle Park, NJ, and Kevin Ciresa of Hatfield, PA; granddaughter, Genevieve; brother, Martin; sister, Pamela; special Aunt, Marguerite; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents, Edward and Claire (Schwerzler) Ciresa.
