Matthew Charles Burkett of Neptune City, NJ passed away suddenly on Thursday September 29th, two days before his 31st birthday. Matthew Charles was an intelligent, gentle and caring man who was always ready to help or comfort anyone in need.
He was born October 1, 1991 in Long Branch, NJ with his twin brother Joshua, and lived in Oakhurst and Neptune City, NJ. Matthew enjoyed playing soccer, writing stories and had an exceptional ability in mathematics. He was a 2009 graduate of Neptune High School where he was Shore Conference Chess Champion his senior year. He attended Monmouth University on an academic scholarship and also Brookdale Community College, studying psychology and philosophy.
Matthew was an avid reader who loved learning and intelligent conversation on any topic. He liked classical music (especially Beethoven), gunpowder green tea, chicken francaise, anime, playing chess, and picking out the perfect gift for everyone at Christmas. He had a very good sense of humor and liked to make people laugh. He will forever be remembered for his exceptional thoughtfulness and love for his family. He will be missed by all, loved forever and always.
Predeceased by his maternal grandfather, Charles Mills Burkett , Matthew is survived by his mother Chrisa A. Burkett, his twin brother, Joshua M. Burkett, his maternal grandmother, Maryann Waladkewics Burkett, his aunt, Sharon Burkett (Doug Yates), his cousins, Anna, John and Lydia Yates, and a large extended family who loved him.
Matthew spread kindness to everyone who had the chance to meet him. To honor Matthew’s memory, we encourage you to do something kind and thoughtful for someone and help make the world a better place.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Thursday October 6, 2022 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm at Holcombe-Fisher funeral home, 147 Main St, Flemington, NJ. Matthew’s Celebration of Life service will be celebrated at 12:00 pm. Interment will follow immediately at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington.
