Louis J. Bottrel, Sr., 80, of Piscataway, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, December 13, 2025, at RWJ University Hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Born April 1, 1945, on the Isle of Jersey, United Kingdom, he was the son of the late Louis and Lillian (Renouf) Bottrel.
Louis had a long and fulfilling career at Johanna Foods, Inc. in Flemington, New Jersey where he worked as a materials handler for an impressive 47 years until his retirement in 2012. His commitment to his work was evident, as he relished the responsibility of unloading and loading tankers, and his long tenure at the company is a testament to his reliability and strong work ethic.
In his retirement, Louis embraced a simple and joyful life. He was known for his great sense of humor, which endeared him to family and friends alike. Louis cherished spending time outdoors, and he enjoyed traveling and camping across the country, from the entire East Coast to Texas and Arizona. His passions extended to activities such as hunting, fishing, bowling, and working on cars, particularly Fords, reflecting his hands-on nature and love for adventure.
Above all, Louis was a proud father, who leaves behind his children, Louis Bottrel, Jr. (Nancy) and Misty Benson (Mike). He took great joy in being a grandfather to Joey, Jr. (Maria) and Kaitlyn, and was a proud great-grandfather to P.J. and Kenny. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Michael Bottrel (Nancy), his sister, Pam Wood, and his brother, Eddie Bottrel, along with several nieces and nephews who will carry fond memories of him in their hearts.
Louis was predeceased by his son, Joseph Bottrel, as well as his brother, Graham Bottrel, and his sister, Valerie Mitala. In addition to his parents, their absence leaves a significant void in the lives of his surviving family members.
As we remember Louis J. Bottrel, Sr., we honor a man who exemplified a life of purpose, love, and laughter. He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.
