Born in Hunterdon County, NJ on April 24, 1873, he was the son of the late Lewis Sutphin and Ann Waldron.

Lewis was predeceased by his wife, Della (Wilson) Sutphin, who died in 1945.

Interment in Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Ringoes, NJ.
