Katherine Manthos Vlahakis, 84, passed away on October 19, 2020 at her home in Palm Harbor, Florida.
Katy was born January 11, 1936 in Astoria NYC to the late Peter Manthos and Kalliroy Siomkos Manthos.
After graduating from Roslyn HS, Long Island NY, she attended Alma College and Hofstra University, graduating with a BS degree in fine arts. She later completed her graduate studies at Columbia University and Long Island University, receiving an MS degree in fine arts with high honors.
After teaching Art in the NY School systems, she married Jim Vlahakis in 1959 and their work brought them to live in New York, Connecticut, and Florida, and then eventually back to New York.
Katy was very active and skilled in skiing, tennis, scuba and golf., but her real passion was Table Tennis.
She has officially held the titles of Connecticut State woman’s single champion, New England woman’s single champion, New England Mixed Doubles champion. She has also been ranked among the top 10 senior ladies for the United States.
She is survived by her loving husband Jim, her sons and daughters-in-law, Dean and Christine of Durham NC and Peter and Carol of Stamford, NY and her five outstanding grandchildren, Lena, Sophia, Skylar, Elizabeth, and James.
Due to the COVID and state requirements, the funeral services and interment will be private and held at the grave site under the direction of our Greek Orthodox Church and the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home 147 Main Street, Flemington, N.J.
