Karen Theresa McLaughlin

February 4, 1966 — February 16, 2026

Frenchtown, NJ

Karen Theresa McLaughlin, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Monday, February 16, 2026, at the Hunterdon Care Center in Raritan Township, NJ. Born on February 4, 1966, in New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Theresa (Segers) McLaughlin. She was raised in Lyndhurst, NJ and was a graduate of Lyndhurst High School in 1984. Karen went on to embrace a life filled with love, curiosity, and compassion.

Throughout her life, Karen lived in several communities, including East Rutherford, North Arlington, and Toms River, before finding her most recent home in Frenchtown, NJ, about four years ago. Karen possessed a remarkable love for history, giving her a boundless curiosity for the world that inspired many around her.

A woman of many passions, Karen was not only a dedicated environmentalist but also a gifted gardener with a green thumb. Her backyard was a sanctuary where she planted a myriad of flowers and greenery, nurturing each one with unparalleled care. Her love for nature extended past her personal garden as she tirelessly sought to save the planet, often recycling and conserving wherever possible.

Karen's love for animals was a defining trait of her life. A devoted cat lover, she had a soft spot for stray cats and delighted in feeding and caring for them. Birds brought her joy, as she welcomed their songs into her home, providing a nurturing environment that reflected her profound love for all living beings.

Karen is survived by her cherished children, Kasey McLaughlin, Mark McLaughlin, and Rosey Henning, all of New Jersey. With adoration, her granddaughter Lexy McLaughlin referred to her as "Mimaw," a title that beautifully embodied the special bond they shared. Additionally, Karen leaves behind her siblings, Art McLaughlin of NJ, Nancy VanHise of NJ, Tim McLaughlin of NC, as well as three nieces and one nephew who carry forward her loving legacy.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Bruce Henning, Jr., with whom she shared over 30 years of companionship before his passing in 2022. The hearts of the family felt a deep ache from the loss of her three sons, Sean Michael McLaughlin and Brian Christopher McLaughlin, who both left this world in 1992, and Cody Alexander McLaughlin, who passed in 1996. Her absence is also felt for two dear family friends she affectionately called "Uncle Jimmy," James Stout, and "Aunt Owen," Nancy Lindstrom, both of whom have passed.

As we remember Karen, we remember a woman whose life was full of passion, love, and compassion. She embraced every moment with zest and left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she loved. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her to cherish nature, love deeply, and live curiously. Karen Theresa McLaughlin will be sorely missed, but her spirit will forever remain in the lives she touched.
