Judith (Judy) Ann Leidich, age 85, passed away December 24, 2024 surrounded by her family.
Born August 18, 1939 in Evansville, IN to the late Gilbert F. Sartore and Mary Sartore, she decided on a career in nursing at an early age. After finishing nursing school, Judy spent two years, 1961-1963, as a Lieutenant in the US Army where she met and married the love of her life, fellow Lieutenant Arthur J. Leidich. Arthur preceded her in death on January 6, 2013.
After briefly residing in New Brunswick, NJ, the couple decided on a life in Raritan Township, NJ where they bought a house and raised a family.
Judy graduated with her BSN from Trenton State College while at the same time working as a Labor and Delivery nurse and raising her own three children. Later, Judy transferred to the Emergency Department at Hunterdon Medical Center where she worked for 38 years. If that wasn’t enough, she also began a career as a school nurse and educator. Eventually working for the Milford Public School (Milford, NJ) by day, and the Emergency Department on evenings and weekends.
Just when you might think Judy did not have any spare time, she would prove us all wrong. Her hobbies included watching every NFL game possible. In the off season, she enjoyed attending the occasional Major League Baseball game with her son and grandchildren.
From a young age, Judy enjoyed thoroughbred horse racing. In later years, she would drag her husband on an annual trip to the Belmont Stakes. On the same note, Judy and Art traveled extensively throughout the United States and abroad. Judy did all the planning and Art followed along. This arrangement served them well during their fifty year marriage.
For a brief moment, Judy tried her hand at playing golf, but after getting hit squarely in the chest by a golf ball, she decided to pivot and try her luck at the Black Jack table. This proved to be a much safer bet for all those concerned.
Judy was also an avid reader, and attended many Broadway musicals and concerts. She also was an animal lover with a special affinity for dachshunds for which her husband Art did all the walking.
With three grandchildren to keep track of, and two full time careers, she often complained there weren’t enough hours in the day.
Surviving are her two daughters, Deborah S. Hackett (Hasbrouck Heights, NJ), Lisa A. Leidich (Towson, MD); a son, David A. Leidich and daughter-in-law Bernadette Leidich (Langhorne, PA); three grandchildren, Jacqueline Hackett, Gavyn Leidich and Skylyr Leidich; and her younger sister, Linda Sartore Morrison (Evansville, IN). Judy is preceded in death by her brother, Dr. Gilbert Alan Sartore. Judy also leaves behind nine nieces and one nephew.
