Joseph S. Giordano, age 91, died Tuesday, September 13, 2022 surrounded by his family at his home in Readington Township NJ.
Born November 1, 1930, in Phillipsburg NJ, Joe was the son of the late Sebastiano and Mary (Procita) Giordano. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School and, soon after, served his country for four years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Upon his Honorable discharge from the Air Force, Joe went to work for the NJ Telephone Company (now Lumen Technologies) as a Field Engineer, retiring in 1995 after working there for 40 years.
Joe married the love of his life, Elaine, in Phillipsburg on September 14, 1957, and were happily married for 65 years. The two enjoyed travelling to many destinations in the United States and abroad. There were cruises and trips to parts of Europe and surrounding countries. Favorites included Italy, Spain, France, and Croatia, the Bahamas, Alaska, New England and Hawaii. Joe loved to fish and clam, spend time gardening, or playing cards, especially poker and pinochle.
While he enjoyed taking in a NY Yankees or Dallas Cowboys game on TV, he truly enjoyed the time spent with his grandchildren, attending their field hockey, basketball and volleyball games as well as other events. He was a member of the Flemington Elks and the Flemington VFW Post 7856 for many years also.
In addition to his parents, Joe was predeceased by his son, David, in 1979, and by his brothers, Albert and Louis Giordano, and his sisters, Sadina Micacchione and Nellie Brita.
Joe is survived by his loving wife, Elaine Metcalf Giordano, his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Michael Sroka of Forks Township PA, his son and daughter-in law, Alan and Barbara Giordano of Frenchtown NJ, his six grandchildren, Christine Sroka, David Giordano, Amy Sroka, Jennifer Sroka, Vincent Giordano and Abigail Giordano, as well as his brother, Anthony Giordano of Phillipsburg NJ.
