Joseph J. Tinley, a devoted family man, skilled mechanic, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, in Raritan Township, New Jersey, just two days shy of his 67th birthday surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 19, 1959, in Flemington, NJ, Joseph lived a life marked by dedication, creativity, and deep compassion.
Throughout his career, Joseph was both a truck driver and a mechanic, professions through which he displayed his commitment to hard work and reliability. His passion for vehicles extended beyond his profession; he was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and a devoted car lover. Joseph’s love of mechanics was matched by his artistic talents—he was a gifted painter who found joy and expression through his artwork.
A lifelong animal lover, Joseph held a special place in his heart for dogs. Among all the companions he cherished over the years, his late dog and best friend, Oz, was particularly dear to him, reflecting the warm and nurturing spirit he carried within.
Joseph was an active member of the AA community and a participant in Solution Seekers in Whitehouse Station, NJ. His involvement in these groups illustrated his commitment to self-improvement and support for others facing challenges.
Joseph’s familial bonds were a central part of his life. He is survived by his beloved daughter, Ashlee Tinley of Blackwood, NJ; his sister, Patricia Welch of Hacketstown, NJ; three grandchildren who brought him immense joy as Papa Joe; as well as several nieces and nephews, all of whom remember him fondly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Frances Tinley, and his brother, John Tinley.
Joseph J. Tinley will be remembered not only for his skills and passions but also for the kindness he extended to those around him and the unyielding love he held for his family. His legacy endures in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know him.
Cremation services will be held privately under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
Memorial contributions in Joseph's name may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
