John Parente, beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2025, at the age of 80.
Born on May 29, 1944, and raised in Brooklyn, New York, John lived a life rooted in family, craftsmanship, and community. He raised his own family in Staten Island, New York, before retiring to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, where he enjoyed the sunshine but always made time to return to New Jersey to stay close to those he loved.
John is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Louise (née Russo), whom he married in December 1967. Together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. He was the proud father of three sons: Donald (Married to Leann), Steven (Former wife Ida), and John Jr. (Married to Patricia), and the cherished grandfather of twelve grandchildren: Salvatore, Nicholas, John Michael, Dominic, Jack, Charles, Lila, Lucy, Anna, James, Thomas, and Andrew, as well as his brother, Michael Parente of Hendersonville NC and his sister, Arlene Visconti of Palm Beach Gardens FL. His family was the center of his world.
John dedicated his professional life to education and mentorship as an industrial arts teacher and tennis coach at New Utrecht High School in Brooklyn. His commitment to his students and athletes extended beyond the classroom and the court—he was a true mentor and role model.
A skilled craftsman, John had a special talent for woodworking and jewelry casting, always creating with precision, pride, and a deep appreciation for detail. He was known for his ability to fix anything and for always offering a helping hand. Whether building a piece of furniture, repairing something for a friend, or simply offering sound advice, John was someone you could count on.
In his free time, he enjoyed pool and all racquet sports, especially tennis. He was also an avid collector of Lionel trains and Hess trucks—a hobby that reflected his nostalgic spirit and love for timeless treasures. John was a proud member and former president of Hillside Swim Club in Staten Island, where he made lifelong friendships and was always an active part of the community.
John’s kindness, humor, and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew him. He was the kind of person who made everything a little better just by being there. His legacy lives on in the many lives he touched, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
