John “Jack” Heathcote, age 82, died Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, after a brief illness.
Born November 13, 1932, in Newark, NJ, Jack was the son of the late Clifford and Margaret (Benfold) Heathcote. He lived many years in Union, NJ, where he raised his family with his former wife Betty (Sampson), who predeceased him, before moving to Flemington seven years ago.
At a young age, Jack took over running his father's small business, All-state Awning and Shade. While managing this company, he attended Rutgers University at night where he earned a Bachelor's Degree. He then went on to work first for Westinghouse and then Union Center National Bank where he worked for many years. Jack eventually retired as a Vice President and Loan Officer after a very fulfilling career.
Outside of work, Jack was deeply involved in the church, first as an Elder serving with Townley Presbyterian Church in Union and later a Deacon at Flemington Presbyterian Church. Additionally, he was an active member of the Springfield Lions Club, serving as the President from 2010 to 2011, on various committees, and just recently being awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow in 2014.
Jack lived a very full and independent life. His calendar was always booked, and he always went the extra mile to stay in contact with dear friends and family regardless of time or distance. In fact, he had just returned from a solo drive to Ohio for a visit with a longtime friend.
Jack is survived by his long-time love, Audrey Wildeck of Belvidere, NJ, his beloved children and their spouses, Jamie Lyn and Scott Corbett of Freehold, NJ, and John C. and Rosemarie Heathcote of Jackson, NJ, his granddaughter, Jessica Heathcote, his granddaughter and husband, Laura & Angel Gonzalez, and his great-granddaughter, Gabriella.
A memorial service will be at 11 am, Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Flemington Presbyterian Church, 10 East Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Fellowship and refreshments will follow at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Lions Club of Springfield, P.O. Box 364, Springfield, NJ 07081, or to the Charity of the donor’s choice.
