John J. Grimm III

May 19, 1938 — June 6, 2026

Stockton, NJ

John “Jack” Grimm of Sergeantsville, NJ, transitioned from this life to the next after a brief illness on Saturday morning, June 6, 2026.

Jack grew up in New Market, NJ, and graduated with the class of 1956 from Dunellen High School where he met Trudy Shanahan. The two would later marry on a Tuesday evening, May 29, 1962 before a standing room only crowd at the Dunellen Methodist Church.

After completing service in the Coast Guard, he spent the remainder of his working life as a police officer in Piscataway Township. He retired as Deputy Chief in 1996. Working with the PBA, he was Santa Claus to generations of local children.

Being a police officer did not define Jack.

He was a lifelong avid outdoorsman; hunting, fishing, camping, and enjoying being in nature. He was truly a “Jack of all trades,” a craftsman with interests in woodworking, metalworking, gardening, baking, and masonry, just to name a few. He was a fixer of all things and sought to solve problems with common sense. He found satisfaction in enjoying the simplest and smallest things in life that most people would pass by and miss. In their retirement, he and Trudy moved to Sergeantsville where they both continued honing their crafts and Jack invested in his community serving with the Sergeantsville Volunteer Fire Company.

Jack is predeceased by his wife Trudy, sister Nancy, and several lifelong friends who were considered family. He is survived by his daughter Tammie Marie of Indiana; his son James Walter and his wife Lorraine Grimm of Piscataway, NJ; two grandchildren, Sarah Ann and Luke Frederick; his sister-in-law Nancy Kendall and her husband, Paul of Virginia; and a wealth of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
