John F. Jacobson, age 79 years, of Alexandria Township, NJ, passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, July 1, 2024, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, July 26, 1944, he was the son of the late Roland and Evelyn Signe (Johannesen) Jacobson. He had formerly resided in Brooklyn, NY, Bayside, Queens, North Jersey, and finally Hunterdon County, NJ since 1979.
After going to Brooklyn Tech, John went on to work as an engineer in the machinery business. He was formerly the proprietor of American Graphic Arts for 17 years and later, On Demand Machinery, which revolutionized bookbinding machinery; something he was very proud of.
Aside from being a skilled machinist and inventor, he was also a highly accomplished woodworker and handy man. “Mr. Fix-It”, he could improve anything he touched. He shared these improvement ideas with his family right up until the end, during his hospitalization.
In his spare time, John enjoyed being on his farm in Alexandria Township. He was an avid tractor collector and enjoyed his beloved animals, which included goats, his mini pony named Butternut, and many other animals that were adored by the whole family, especially the grandchildren. In addition, John was a reading connoisseur, extremely well-read on various subjects, specifically Revolutionary War history.
Above all, family was what was most important to John. In fact, he even hosted several family reunions. He was generous with his family time and those around him were often regaled with his storytelling abilities and his selfless and caregiving nature.
Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Miriam “Kay” (nee Fox) Jacobson of Alexandria Township, NJ; his children and their spouses, John Jacobson, Jr. (wife Dana) of Ste. Geneviève, MO, Kevin Jacobson (wife Barbara “B.J.”) also of Alexandria Township, NJ, Laura Jaw (husband Timothy) of Lebanon Township, NJ, and Brian Jacobson of Monroeton, PA; nine grandchildren: Colin, Meadow, Sophia, Henry, Mabel, Hannah, Owen, Isaac, and Alex; siblings, Judith Shotts (husband John), Evelyn Wald (partner Eloise Ingram), and Peter Jacobson (wife Priscilla); as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and finally his beloved grand-dogs.
A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date by the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Hunterdon Land Trust, 111 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ 08822, in an effort to continue Hunterdon County Farmland Preservation.
