John Anthony Christie, age 86, of Flemington, NJ, passed away on January 13, 2026, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Newark, NJ, March 7, 1939, he was the son of the late Alberta (Meyers) Christie and Edward Morgan Christie, Sr.
Spending his youth in Cranford, NJ and Westfield, NJ, he began enjoying summers in East Amwell Township, NJ in the early 1950's. He moved there with his family in 1956 and graduated from Hunterdon Central Regional High School in 1957. He then attended Penn State University, State College, PA.
John resided much of his adult life at Orchard Hill Farm, Sergeantsville, NJ where he purchased a property that had nearly been destroyed by a devastating fire. He restored the 1760's historic house, raised steer on the land, and lived there for over 35 years.
A realtor and licensed mortgage broker, he retired from John Christie & Company in Raritan Township in December of 2001. He bought, sold, and developed properties in Hunterdon, Ocean, and Warren Counties. He served as the Vice President of the former Flemington National Bank & Trust Company and was elected Hunterdon County Coroner in 1967.
In 2005, John began dividing his time between New Jersey and Long Boat Key, FL, where he joined the University Park Country Club. He became a full-time Floridian from 2010-2022, before returning to Flemington, NJ to live out his later years.
Formerly, he belonged to the Flemington Lions Club, Darcy Lodge #37 F & AM, and the Flemington Presbyterian Church, and was an honorary PBA member for his support of local police work.
Along with his wife Nancy, he was the recipient of the Spirit of Hunterdon Award in 2006 for his support and commitment to the Hunterdon Healthcare system.
Loving to tinker, make, and fix things, he had several hobbies. He collected and restored antique cars and had been active in the Cadillac and Nash car clubs. His favorite automobile was his 1930 red and black Nash, once featured on a calendar. At Christmas time, it was parked at the entrance of his home fully decorated for the holidays with Santa behind the wheel. He also refurbished antique outdoor motors and was a member of the Southwest Chapter (FL) of the Antique Outdoor Motor Club. He constructed intricate nautical models and enjoyed boating at the Jersey Shore and in the Florida Gulf.
In addition to being predeceased by his parents, he was predeceased by his only brother in 2025, the late Edward M. Christie, Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Nancy (Fisher) Christie, of Flemington, NJ; her two sons, Robert F. Bogart (Amy), of Accident, MD, and Peter F.
