Joan Rothman, née Granby, passed away peacefully on July 17, 2024. Born in Liverpool, UK, Joan was one of seven children of the late Frederick and Marie Granby.
After completing nursing school in Liverpool, Joan embarked on a journey that led her initially all over the world as a flight attendant for British Airways, but ultimately to the United States, where she continued her nursing career. She worked at Memorial Sloan Kettering, among other places before she eventually joined her husband, Dr. Arthur Robert (Bob) Rothman, working as a nurse and practice manager in his well-established medical practice on Staten Island.
Joan and Bob shared a love for their farm, Oxbow Acres, in Oxford, NJ, where they bred and raised racehorses for many years. Their passion for the arts was evident in their frequent visits to the Metropolitan Opera to enjoy their favorite performances.
An avid puzzle enthusiast, Joan was known for her remarkable ability to complete the New York Times Sunday crossword puzzles with surprising speed.
In addition to her parents, Joan was predeceased by her husband of forty-five years, Arthur “Bobby” Robert Rothman, M.D. , who died in 2018. She is survived by her daughter, Samantha; stepchildren Amy Rothman, Nina Fairchild, and Jud Rothman; step-grandchildren Zach, Sydney, and Logan; sister-in-law Carol Granby; and several nieces and nephews including Christine, Susan, Paul, Mark, Peter, Alexander, Andrew, and Catherine.
