Joan Ruth Noonan Slomka passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in the home she built with her late husband in Flemington, New Jersey.
Joan was born in Lyndhurst, New Jersey on November 15, 1930, to Jane and Timothy Noonan. She grew up in Bayside, New York and graduated from Lenox Hill Nursing School in February 1951. While in student training she met the love of her life, Edwin B. Slomka, MD in the emergency room tending to a patient. Joan worked at North Shore Hospital in Manhasset, Long Island as a supervisor before marrying and moving to Flemington, New Jersey in 1957.
She was active in the Flemington Woman’s Club, Raritan Valley Country Club and the Ladies “Gathering” Bridge Club. Joan was an avid golfer, skier and tennis player. She enjoyed cooking, especially Sunday dinners with a house full of family and friends. Always the one to bake the birthday cake, Joan was famous for her brownies and chocolate chip cookies. Her greatest joys were doting on her children and grandchildren and enjoying the company of a large collection of cherished, lifelong friends.
Joan was pre-deceased by her husband, Dr. Edwin B. Slomka and her brother Robert D. Noonan.
She is survived by her daughter Laura Slomka Bodman and husband Roger Bodman, a son, Douglas Slomka, and his wife Lori, two loving grandchildren, Jamie Madelyn Slomka and Jack Timothy Slomka. In addition, she leaves her brother Wallace Noonan and his wife Susan.
Due to Covid, the family will not hold a service at this time; a memorial event will be scheduled in the future.
