Colbert, GA

James Frank Papics, a devoted family man, dedicated community servant, and respected professional, passed away peacefully on March 20, 2026, in Colbert, Georgia. Born on December 5, 1930, in Alexandria Township, New Jersey, James led a life marked by commitment, service, and deep roots in his community.

A graduate of Frenchtown High School's Class of 1949, James went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956, where he was stationed in Germany for much of his service. His sense of duty extended beyond his military service as he dedicated over 30 active years volunteering with the Raritan Township Fire Company beginning in 1962. His unwavering commitment earned him life memberships in the Raritan Township Fire Company, the Fire Company Relief Association—where he served as Secretary for 25 years—and the New Jersey Fireman's Relief Association.

In his professional life, James was known for his hard work and reliability. He worked for Kennedy Building Maintenance and the Flemington Auction Market for many years. Additionally, he was a successful entrepreneur, owning and operating Papics Janitorial Service until its sale in 1995.  He also provided security as a guard at the former Flemington Fairgrounds before relocating to Georgia.

James’s legacy is enriched by his loving family. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and John Kentnor of Colbert, GA; his daughter-in-law, Vicky Papics of Bloomsbury, NJ; three grandsons, John M. Kentnor of Georgia, Scott Papics, and Kevin Papics of Bloomsbury, NJ; three great-grandchildren, John Cameron Kentnor, Alivia Jade Kentnor, and Michael Chase Kentnor; and one great-great-granddaughter, Lorelei Kentnor. He was also cherished by his sister, Margaret Oram of Oxford, NJ.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Michael and Helen (Szabo) Papics; his wife, Alma May (Ewing) Papics, who passed in 2020; his son, Michael Papics, who passed in 2022; three brothers, Michael Papics (1989), John Papics (1985), and Stephen Papics (2003); and four sisters, Irene Biscar (2004), Anna Gruver (2008), Matilda Hotchkin (2013), and Elizabeth Berner (2017).
