Irene E. Sporysz passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at home. She was born in Flemington, NJ, November 5, 1925, the daughter of the late William and Katherine (Csamer) Kocsik. Irene had lived in Raritan Township, NJ since 1927, and was a graduate of Flemington High School, with the Class of 1943.
Irene was a secretary stenographer. During World War II she was employed by the Jersey City Quartermaster Sub Depot in South Somerville, NJ. Later she worked at the Veterans Administration Supply Depot in South Somerville, retiring in 1982 as Administrative Assistant to the Director. After retirement, for over 21 years, she was a caregiver for both her husband and her mother.
Irene was a member of American Legion Post 159 Auxiliary and a communicant of St. Magdalen de Pazzi Roman Catholic Church in Flemington.
She enjoyed flowers and dancing in her younger years.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Henry J. Sporysz, who died in 2004; as well as her brother, William Kocsik.
She is survived by daughter, Michele DeGhetto of Raritan Township, and daughter, Cheryl Shepard and husband Kenneth Shepard of Port St. Lucie, Florida; as well as her dedicated caregivers: Emily Cuevo, Maria Justiniani, and Ramona Jara.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM in St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Calling hours will be prior to mass on Wednesday from 9:00-9:30 AM at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ.
