Hilda R. Cook, a vibrant and devoted matriarch, gracefully departed this world on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was 90 years old. Born on June 19, 1935, in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, she was the daughter of the late Escolástica Cedeño and José Angel García. She made her way to the mainland United States in 1955, embarking on a journey that would lead to a life filled with cherished memories and a legacy of love.
Hilda was a woman of conviction, marked by a lively spirit and a deep faith that guided her through the many joys and challenges of life. A true homemaker, she dedicated herself wholeheartedly to her family. Known affectionately as "abuela" to her grandchildren, Hilda's larger-than-life presence left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
For most of her married life, Hilda found her home in Brooklyn, NY, where she built a home with her husband, Frederick E. Cook, with whom she shared 66 meaningful years. In 1999, "Ita" and "Freddy" settled in Hunterdon County, New Jersey, a lovely change from the city streets to mountainous, wooded views.
One of Hilda's passions was cooking and, while she cooked a variety of things, her specialties were Puerto Rican favorites like rice and chicken, empanadas, beans, pasteles, and flan, bringing joy to family gatherings.
Beyond her culinary talents, Hilda was an avid gym-goer who reveled in dancing and aerobics. She and Fred would also walk for miles in the many green spaces Hunterdon County has to offer. Her zest for life inspired those around her, reminding everyone that joy can be found in both movement and companionship.
Hilda's legacy lives on through her loving husband of 66 years, Frederick Cook; her children, Deborah A. Biolsi and Jennifer Cook-Ortiz; her son-in-law John Ortiz, her nephew Julian Aleman, who was like a son to her; and her adoring grandchildren: Ryan and Jen, Brendan and Kellie, Sean and Lindsey, Kelly and Kyle, Erin and Cody, Meghan, Dylan, Brian, Clemente, Bryanna, Nolan, Siena, Sawyer, Ryleigh, and Baby Ellis on the way! In addition, she is survived by two siblings, Carmen Iris and Ruth. Each of them held a special place in her heart, and her unwavering support was a source of strength for all.
She is lovingly remembered not only for her devotion to family but also for the enduring love she shared. Hilda now joins those she has missed dearly, including her son, the late Jeffery Cook; her son-in-law, the late Thomas Biolsi, her parents; and her siblings Noemi, Nenita, and Junior. Together, they are embraced by the warmth of eternal love.
As we honor her memory, we invite all who knew her to celebrate the vibrant life of Hilda R. Cook. A visitation will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home in Flemington, NJ.
