Harry P. Britton

September 26, 1907 — March 14, 1993

Harry P. Britton , a lifelong resident of the Pittstown area who served as the township's first chief of police, died Sunday, March 14, 1993, at Hunterdon Medical Center. He was 85.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a son of the late Russell and Bessie Roberson Britton .

He formerly owned and operated Britton 's Garage in Pittstown. Later, after serving as the township's constable for a year, he became the township's first police chief, serving from 1966 to 1974. Later, he was employed as chief security officer at Laneco in Clinton.

He was a Past Master of Stewart Lodge, F&AM in Clinton (now in High Bridge); a founding member of Quakertown Fire Company and the Quakertown Gun Club; a member of several antique car clubs; former member of the township board of education and also a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon of Hunterdon County.

Surviving are his wife, Helen Maulen Britton ; a daughter, Janet Beall of Baldwinsville, N.Y.; two grandchildren, and one great-grandson.

Funeral services were under the direction of Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, Flemington.

Interment was in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown.
