Harold J. Bush, age 71 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township, NJ.
Born in Somerville, NJ, November 12, 1949, son of the late Harold P. and Dorothy Kelly Bush, he was a lifelong resident of Hunterdon County.
He was a graduate of the College of the Holy Cross, Worcester, MA. He then received his MA in English from the University of New Hampshire and then earned his law degree from Case Western Reserve University Law School, Cleveland, OH. He was admitted to the New Jersey Bar in 1979.
Harold was an attorney with Law Offices in Flemington until retiring in 2020. He worked for several years as a New Jersey Deputy Attorney General before moving to the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, where, as an Assistant Prosecutor, he served on the county Drug Taskforce. After many years of public service, Harold opened his Flemington law practice where he specialized in criminal defense and municipal law. For over 30 years he represented hundreds of clients throughout Hunterdon and Warren Counties, as both a private attorney and as a pool attorney for the New Jersey Public Defender’s Office. Harold was highly respected by his peers, and was well regarded for his legal acumen and exceptional professional courtesy. His recent retirement gave him the opportunity to spend more time doing what he loved best: voraciously reading history books, listening to classical music, and sharing box after box of animal crackers with his beloved grand-niece, Elizabeth.
Harold was a very kind and selfless person whose passion was reading. A member of Trout Unlimited, he enjoyed fishing, especially the Bighorn River, the upper reaches of the Delaware River and several rivers in New Hampshire. When he was younger, he enjoyed hunting and a cruise to Alaska.
Surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Larry and Peg Bush of York, ME; a sister, Melanie Bush of Flemington, NJ; his nieces and nephews, Jessica Koch, Sarah Bush, Brian Bush and Eric Bush and his great niece, Elizabeth.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at 10:30 AM in St. John The Evangelist Church, Bridge Street, Lambertville, NJ. Calling hours will be Tuesday, June 8, 2021, 7:00 PM-9:00 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private.
