Gladys J. Cucinotta, a beloved figure known for her warmth, intelligence, and loyalty, passed away on November 8, 2025, at the age of 92 in Clinton Township, NJ. Born on October 4, 1933, in Brooklyn, NY, Gladys touched the lives of many during her years both personally and professionally.
Gladys had a dedicated career, serving as a secretary at Oasis Oil Company in New York City, as well as a funeral attendant at Labella Funeral Home in Brooklyn. Throughout her life, she exemplified a caring nature, remembered fondly as a Den Mother for her son's Cub Scouts. Her commitment to nurturing those around her mirrored her love for family.
She had myriad interests and hobbies that enriched her life. Gladys was a proud member of the Rosarians at Most Precious Blood Church in Brooklyn, regularly attending Catholic Mass for many years. Her love for reading was profound; she often indulged in novels and enjoyed the challenge of completing crossword puzzles. She had a particular fondness for watching BritBox television programs and spent joyful moments on trips, cruises and drives to Atlantic City with her husband and her cherished sister, Audrey. Gladys also enjoyed keeping up with friends on Facebook, showcasing her affectionate and social spirit.
A remarkable cook, she gained much joy from preparing meals for her loved ones, especially her renowned “meatballs,” often made from scratch and accompanied by a glass of wine with friends. Above all, she absolutely adored her grandson, Joseph Anthony Cucinotta, affectionately referring to him as her "pumpkin pie," a testament to the deep bond they shared.
Gladys leaves behind her son, Joseph Neil Cucinotta and daughter-in-law Anne Cucinotta of Flemington, NJ; her daughter Susan Cucinotta, also of Flemington, NJ; her beloved grandson Joseph Anthony Cucinotta; and her dear sister, Audrey DeTommaso of Bridgewater, NJ. She is also survived by several cousins, nieces, and nephews who will carry her memory forward.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph N. Cucinotta, who passed away in 2002, and her parents, Vincent and Susan (Amato) Merced.
A celebration of Gladys’ life will be held with visitation on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, starting at 6:00 PM and concluding at 7:00 PM at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Magdalen Church, 105 Mine Street in Flemington on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, at 10:00 AM, followed at 12:30 PM by a graveside service at Resurrection Cemetery, 361 Sharrott Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10309.
