George W. Scott, age 83 years, of Hillsborough Township, NJ died on Monday, December 14, 2020 in Little Brook Nursing Home, Califon, NJ.
Born in Jersey City, NJ, June 24, 1937, he was the son of the late George and Edith Taggart Scott and had resided in Somerset County since 1964. He formerly resided in Colonia, NJ and in North Carolina.
A graduate of Rutgers University, George retired in 1994 as Eastern Regional Director of Prudential Property and Casualty Insurance Company.
George was a person who spent his life giving back to others. He was a very active member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Flemington, NJ, and was involved for many years with Boy Scouts of America, receiving the Silver Beaver Award. for his lifelong commitment to scouting. He volunteered at the Hunterdon Care Center and Rolling Hills Care Center, and the United Way of Essex County. George enjoyed woodworking, camping, gardening, and anything outdoors. He remained active in support of the Heifer Foundation, Children’s International, and the Northern NJ Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
George will always be remembered as a gentle, loving man who gave of himself selflessly and understood the depth of destruction Alzheimers disease causes. He gave of his time and love to make the days brighter for the residents of the Hunterdon Care Center by providing the aroma therapy garden there. He was always willing to participate in the local town hall meetings of the Northern NJ chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. George would actively share his experiences at the meetings of the personal struggles as a spouse and care giver, as well as time as a volunteer. The community learned so much from his candid sharing of the struggles and victories in dealing with dementia and his optimistic outlook for the future of others battling this awful war. George was quick to educate others to separate the disease from the person and that, no matter what, your loved one was still there. He was a great man, with an even greater capacity for love, and he will be terribly missed by all that were fortunate enough to know him.
