RARITAN -- Erna Riffel Fuhrman, 91, died Monday at Hunterdon Care Center.
Born in Germany, she came to the United States in 1924 and settled in Irvington. She lived in Union and Scotch Plains before moving to Raritan.
She was cafeteria manager at A&P Tea Co., Newark, 25 years before retiring.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 22, Hamilton, and St. Paul Lutheran Church, Flemington.
Daughter of the late August and Marie Braun Voelker, wife of the late Alex Fuhrman and the late George E. Riffel, and predeceased by three brothers and a sister, she is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, M. Louise and Louis Van Assen of Citrus Springs, Fla.; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Leisel Kaelber of New York City; and a brother, Karl Voelker of Germany.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main St., Flemington.
Burial will be in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
