Elinor M. Cornell

Elinor Martha Cornell passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, November 20, 2025, at the age of 97, while under hospice care at her home in Flemington, New Jersey. Born on January 25, 1928, in the Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of the late Egon and Meta (Struve) Lohberg.

Elinor enjoyed a fulfilling career as an executive secretary with the United States Golf Association (USGA) before retiring. After her professional life, she continued to give back to her community as a team leader for Project Healthy Bones at the Hunterdon County Senior Center. Earlier, she and her husband volunteered with a program in Bernards Township that taught English to non‑native speakers.

She was also active in her church communities, belonging to both the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church in Bernards Township and the Three Bridges Reformed Church in Three Bridges, New Jersey. A longtime member of the Liberty Corner Presbyterian Church choir, she found joy in music, as well as in playing the piano, solving crossword puzzles, reading, and spending time watching the birds and admiring the flowers in her backyard.

Surviving Elinor are her two sons and their spouses, Craig C. (Diane) Cornell of Davis, California, and Steven S. (Kathy) Cornell of Flemington, New Jersey. She also leaves behind her beloved grandson, Adam C. Cornell, as well as several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews who will carry on her memory.

Elinor was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Calvin Coolidge Cornell, and her brother, Egon E. "Tex" Lohberg.  She is remembered for her love of family and commitment to her community. Her legacy will continue through the hearts of those she touched throughout her life.
