Eleonore "Ellie" Donnelly, age 84 years, a devoted matriarch, passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, May 14, 2026, at Hunterdon Medical Center in Raritan Township, NJ surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 29, 1941, in Newark, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Otto and Hedwig (Weissor) Broghammer. Eleonore lived a life distinguished by unwavering commitment to her family, her career, and the many passions that enriched her days.
Ellie and her husband, William P. “Bill” Donnelly, her high school sweetheart and devoted partner for 65 years built a life rooted in unwavering love and companionship. Bill adored Ellie, and together they were inseparable, sharing every chapter of their lives side by side. Their bond only deepened as they raised their two treasured children, Patrick and Noreen, first in Union, NJ, and later in Pittstown, NJ, where they settled in 1976. They spent the better part of their lives in this community, nurturing a family grounded in affection, loyalty, and mutual respect.
Ellie’s personality shone brightest in her devotion to her family. She loved her family beyond anything else, taking immense pride and joy in her grandchildren, whom they affectionately called “Gabie.” She was a tireless supporter of all their endeavors, including football, baseball, cheer, gymnastics, and hockey, or simply by spending time with them wherever they were. She traveled anywhere she needed to go to support her grandchildren, celebrating their accomplishments, cheering them on, and standing beside them through every milestone. Her home was always filled with animals, reflecting her deep love for them. Gardening was one of her passions, particularly tending to her beloved roses, as well as her vegetable and flower gardens, bringing beauty and life to her surroundings. Family vacations to the Outer Banks in North Carolina were deeply cherished, where she enjoyed walking the beach, searching for shells and sand dollars, and of course spending time with the whole family—a time of peace and connection with her loved ones.
Ellie’s professional journey began with the New Jersey State Department of Education, a role through which she contributed meaningfully to the educational landscape. Later, she became a much‑loved administrative assistant at Hunterdon Central Regional High School in Flemington, NJ. For several decades, until her retirement in 2016, she made the school announcements resonate with a special warmth and presence that touched students and faculty alike. Her pride in her work at Central was evident to all who knew her.
A woman of many talents, Ellie was an incredible sewer and seamstress. She delighted in repairing garments and creating Halloween costumes for her children and grandchildren from scratch—skills that brought joy and memorable moments to family celebrations. Known for her culinary prowess, she was a great cook and baker, best loved for her homemade Sunday dinners that became a treasured family ritual. Her love of Christmas was especially heartfelt; she collected snowmen and ornaments that adorned her home and trees, and she found great pleasure in sending hand written cards to family and friends for birthdays and holiday seasons.
Throughout her life, Ellie took great pride in her appearance, always presenting herself with care and grace, ensuring her hair, make‑up, and nails were beautifully done, a reflection of the joy she found in looking her best. She especially loved her glitter and sparkles in her outfits, which perfectly matched her bright spirit. Ellie also adored her jewelry and wearing pins that added a personal touch to every outfit.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Bill, of Pittstown, NJ; her son and daughter-in-law, Patrick and Lynne Donnelly of Frenchtown, NJ; her daughter, Noreen Stansberry of Bloomsbury, NJ; and her four grandchildren, triplets Phelan Stansberry, Karrick Stansberry, McKeeley Stansberry, and Riley Donnelly. Also sharing in her memory and legacy is her cherished dog, Annie.
Ellie was predeceased by her beloved parents and her sister, Hedwig Lipke, whose memories she carried with her.
