Edward E. Brunner, Jr., age 82 years, of Bethlehem Township, NJ, passed away on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at RWJ - University Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. Born on July 5, 1942, in Irvington, NJ, he was the son of the late Eleanor (Karge) and Edward E. Brunner, Sr. He had formerly resided in Union, NJ, but had lived in Hunterdon County, NJ since 1980.
A proud veteran, as a young man Ed served in the United States Army. He then spent most of his career as an auto mechanic, co-owning Pride & Performance Auto Center in Cranford, NJ, where he earned the respect of his customers for his skill and reliability. In the latter part of his life, he transitioned to a more community-oriented role, driving a school bus for the Hunterdon Central Regional High School District. This change allowed him to connect with the youth of his community and offer them a safe passage to their education.
Additionally, he deeply enjoyed spending his down time on the “mini-farm” he shared with his family, taking great pleasure in caring for a variety of animals, including horses, pigs, cows, goats, and chickens. Moreover, family vacations to Cape May, NJ, were among his favorite moments, cherished experiences spent with family and long-time friends. Finally, he had a famous chili recipe, which won several chili cook-off competitions in the Poconos.
As a husband, father, and grandfather, he created lasting memories with his loved ones. Ed had a special bond with his grandchildren, recalling special details about his experiences with each of them that underscored the affection he had for them.
In addition to his parents, Ed was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Leonardis.
Ed leaves behind his beloved wife of 58 years, Phyllis (Huthwaite) Brunner; his daughter, Danielle Civale; his son, Edward E. Brunner, III (Marijo); and his grandchildren: Ben Jankowski, T.J. Jankowski, Sierra Brunner, Angie Jankowski, Edward E. Brunner, IV, Natalie Jankowski, and Nick Civale. He is also remembered by his brother and sister-in-law, Ronald Brunner (Carol), along with his loyal canine companion, Sandy.
