Edna Caroline Lamendola, age 84, died Saturday, July 16, 2022 at her home in Tewksbury Township NJ, where she has lived for the past 50 years, in the house that she and her husband built in the early 1970’s.
Born October 21, 1937 in Alexandria Township NJ, Edna was the daughter of the late Hans and Elizabeth E. (Anderson) Hansen.
In her youth, Edna contracted polio and needed to have her ankle fused in a hospital procedure, it was then that she met the love of her life, a hospital volunteer, Raymond E. Lamendola, and the two were married soon thereafter. Edna had a great sense of humor and would often entertain those around her with her wit and humor. She had much empathy for others and was a loving wife to Ray and mother to her son, Joel.
Edna and Ray traveled extensively during a time when flying was glamorous and luxurious. They often were recognized in their travels by various celebrities and dignitaries, especially with many trips to Palm Springs CA, Europe, St. Croix, and other parts of the world. She enjoyed many days on the water, boating with her family at the Jersey Shore or the Delaware River.
Edna loved animals and frequently had a cat for a pet. She was a prolific reader, especially of fictional novels. Her work as a Legal Secretary gave her much pleasure and satisfaction and she would later volunteer at the Hunterdon County Library teaching adults to read for the first time. Edna enjoyed playing card games with her family and friends, pinochle was always a favorite of hers.
At her home, Edna had a ‘green thumb’ and kept two vegetable gardens and an orchard on the property in Tewksbury. She was famous for her apple, pumpkin, and rhubarb pies, deliciously baked with the fruit from her garden and orchards. Her gifts to the community and her family and friends will be greatly missed by those that knew her.
In addition to her parents, Edna was predeceased by her sister, Shirley, and her brother, John. She is survived by her loving husband, Raymond, her son, Joel and his wife, Kirsten, her grandson, Bergen, and her brother, Norman.
