Douglas A. Richardson

December 31, 1941 — August 2, 2024

Douglas “Dougie” A. Richardson, age 82 years, died on Friday, August 2, 2024, with his family by his side, after a brief illness.

Born December 31, 1941, in Orange, NJ, he was the son of the late Warren A. and Lillian A. (Romine) Richardson. He had formerly resided in Summit, NJ, Murray Hill, NJ, Berkeley Heights, NJ, where he raised his family, and finally Hampton, NJ for over twenty years.

He attended Summit High School and worked for the Bradshaw Co., until he taught himself hand engraving, which became his passion. He would go on to be the proprietor of “Recognition Galleries” for over fifty years, specializing in custom hand engravings from the workshop in his home. In fact, for decades he engraved the USGA US Open golf trophies, and in later years, was flown to the venue and asked to engrave them on site. He could engrave any picture, signature or flatware; you name it, he could engrave it!

Doug was a former member of the Berkeley Heights Lions Club and always kept busy. In his spare time, he enjoyed landscaping, outdoor projects, and was an avid tennis player and golfer. Additionally, he will be remembered as a “dancin’ fool” and was the life of any party he attended. Finally, he was a dog-lover and had many Samoyed canine companions over the years.

Above all, his family, especially his grandchildren, were his pride and joy, and he was extremely proud of them.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, the late Warren Richardson.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of sixty years, Margaret “Peggie” D. (Nelson) Richardson; his son and daughter-in-law, Doug and Kathy Richardson, his daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and John Brown; as well as his grandchildren, Jacob Brown and his girlfriend Keely, and Vincent and Vanessa Richardson.

Services will be private. Memorial contributions in Doug’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.

Cremation services and arrangements are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ 08822. For further information or to send an online condolence, please visit Doug’s Tribute Wall at www.holcombefisher.com.
