Dorothy E. Wismer, a beloved member of her community and a source of joy for her family and friends, passed away on October 5, 2025, in Vineland, NJ, at the age of 91. Born on December 30, 1933, in Trenton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Dorothy (Young) Valentine. Dorothy's early life, as she fondly referred to herself, was simply that of a “downtown Trenton girl." After graduating from Trenton High School in the Class of 1952, she carried with her a zest for life that would inspire those around her.
Throughout her life, Dorothy cultivated a career that blended her passions for health, education, and community service. She embraced her role as a yoga instructor at the Flemington Senior Center, where her gentle guidance and warm spirit encouraged many seniors to find wellness and strength in their daily lives. Dorothy’s service extended beyond her professional commitments; she dedicated numerous years volunteering at Rural Awareness in Franklin Township, NJ, as well as at the Quakertown United Methodist Church and Cherryville Baptist Church. Her efforts made a significant impact on those she served, as she believed in lifting up others within her community.
Dorothy was also known for her entrepreneurial spirit, having owned a cherished consignment shop, The Quakertown Store, where many gathered not just to shop but to share stories, laughter, and companionship. The pastimes she loved included playing the piano and singing, going to church events, and going on sightseeing day trips with her late husband, "Wiz." These moments brought her immense joy and illustrated her passion for cultivating experiences that were rich in connection and laughter.
At the heart of Dorothy’s life was her family. She is survived by her son, Mark Wismer of Hamilton, VA, and her daughter, Nancy and Robert Hamilton of Dorchester, NJ. She took great pride in being a grandmother to Carla and Lydia, and a devoted great-grandmother to Belah, Mila, and Kora. Her home was always open, a welcome haven for her loved ones, where she lovingly invested her time and a shared meal of healthy foods, being notable for her generosity towards neighbors and friends alike.
In addition to her parents, Dorothy is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Howard Wismer in 2018 as well as her beloved siblings: Florence Davis, Roy Valentine, and Peggy Bartolone. Her legacy will be remembered not only in her profound connections with family and friends but also in the countless lives she touched through her kindness and dedication. As we reflect on Dorothy's remarkable journey, we find comfort in knowing that her spirit will continue to shine brightly in all who were fortunate to know and love her.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 at Quakertown United Methodist Church, 1187 Croton Rd, Quakertown NJ 08868, followed by fellowship and lunch at the church.
