Dorothy (Dot) Gares, 80, passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2019, in the Hunterdon Medical Center after a short, but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer that began in December 2018.
Born in Trenton, NJ on May 31, 1939, Dot grew up in Hunterdon County and attended North Hunterdon Regional High School. It was there that two high school sweethearts fell in love. Dot (known to her many beloved nieces and nephews as "little Dot") married the love of her life on January 27, 1957 and they built a memorable life together raising six children.
Dot treasured all of the simple things in life. She enjoyed camping with her family and friends, yard-sale shopping and flea market shopping with Fred, reading, watching "old" TV shows, and living each day to the fullest. Dot was a housekeeper for several families in the area, and she not only cared for their homes, but became a trusted friend, confidant and caregiver. She was a small lady, but had a heart twice her size, and she will be greatly missed.
Dot is survived by her husband of 62 years, Fred Gares of Three Bridges, NJ; her son, Fred Gares, Jr. of Devon, Mi.; her son, Rick Gares and his wife Patty (Higgins) of Indian Beach, NC; her son, Mike Gares and his wife Christine (Srubjan) of Frenchtown, NJ; her daughter, Tammy Beck and her husband Bob of Warminster, Pa.; her daughter, Michelle Gares and her husband, Dave Vieytes of Phillipsburg, NJ; and her son, Kevin Gares of Three Bridges, NJ. She also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Funeral services and interment are under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A memorial service and celebration of Dot's life will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 1-4 pm at the Amwell Valley Fire Company, 22 County Road 579, Ringoes, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Three Bridges Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 127, Three Bridges, NJ 08887.

From "Hymn of Promise"
In our end is our beginning;
In our time, infinity;
In our doubt, there is believing;
In our life, eternity,
In our death, a resurrection;
At last, a victory,
Unrevealed until its season,
Something God alone can see.
