Donald S. Crane, Sr., age 93 years, of Flemington, NJ, died Thursday, August 24, 2023, at the Hunterdon Medical Center, Raritan Township. NJ.
Born in Somerville, NJ, August 22, 1930, son of the late Howard K. and Irene (Hoffman) Crane, he had formerly resided in Neshanic Station for many years, where he raised his family. Additionally, he had lived in Belle Mead, Montgomery, Somerville, NJ, Hudson, NY and Parsippany, NJ prior to moving to Flemington.
Donald was first employed by Lance Cracker Co., Charlotte, NC. He later started his own auto mechanic shop, Don's Service Center in Neshanic Station, NJ, which is still in existence today. In addition, he was a carpenter specializing in home repairs and building additions.
He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and served in the Army from 1951-1959.
Don was a life member of the Neshanic Volunteer Fire Company; a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Neshanic Station, where he also sang in the choir for many years; was a former chess champion in high school and played the French horn in his high school band, and later with the Bound Brook Symphony Orchestra.
Surviving are his wife of seventy-two years, Estelle Rayhon Crane; a son, Donald S. Crane, Jr. of Neshanic Station, NJ; four daughters, Mary E. Crane of Hudson, NY, Barbara Ewing of Flemington, NJ, Dr. Susan (David) Luck of Mechanicsville, VA, Shirley (Maria Meo) Crane of Parsippany, NJ; six grandchildren, David Marshall, David, Jonathan and Austin Luck, and Stephen and Noah Meo-Crane; and three great grandchildren, Serenity, Rylynn and Jaxxon Marshall.
Funeral services with military honors will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023, at 5:00 PM in the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. Interment will be private. Calling hours will be Thursday, 4:00 PM until the time of service at the funeral home.
