Claire B. McCarthy, age 90 years, passed away on Monday evening, October 30, 2023, at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence, Wayland, MA.
Born in Staten Island, NY, November 28, 1932, she was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (O’Konska) Pratnicki. She had formerly resided in Richmond, Staten Island, NY and then Flemington, NJ after her retirement.
She had a long, forty-year career as a nurse. She first graduated from The Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing, then worked at St. Vincent's Hospital, and finally spent over twenty years at Richmond Memorial Hospital, both in Staten Island, NY.
She was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, Pittstown, NJ, where she was also a member of the church rosary society.
In her spare time, she was an avid bridge player, attaining the life master status. Additionally, she appreciated gardening and playing the piano.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, the late John “Mac” McCarthy, who died in 2002.
Surviving are her four children, Michael McCarthy of Austin, TX, Claire C. McCarthy of Millis, MA, Katherine McCarthy of Staten Island, NY and David J. McCarthy of Mechanicsburg, PA; as well as her three grandchildren, Sean, Brendan, and Craig McCarthy.
Visitation will take place Sunday, November 5, 2023, from 4:00-6:00 PM at the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Fr. Chester Zalubski, will be held on Monday, November 6, 2023, at 10:00 AM at the St. Catherine of Siena Roman Catholic Church, 2 White Bridge Road, Pittstown, NJ 08867. Burial, next to her late husband, will follow in Locust Grove Cemetery, Quakertown, NJ.
