Christine Louise Houck, age 81 years, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday evening, October 7, 2025, with her family by her side. Born in Lykens, PA on January 2, 1944, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Lyline (Walbert) Wynn. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dedicated her life to faith, family, and education.
Chris grew up in Easton, PA, where she developed a passion for teaching. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Education from Bloomsburg University, PA, and went on to have a successful career as an educator, teaching for decades in various roles. Her impact on her students and the community was profound, and she cherished time spent nurturing young minds, correcting their grammar, and challenging their vocabulary.
Beyond her professional achievements, Chris was a devoted family woman. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, pouring her love into their lives and enjoying every moment spent together. She was affectionately known as G'Ma or GG to her family. Surviving are her children, Sherri Hoffman (Kevin) of Florida, Valeri Houck also of Florida, Deirdri Houck of Pennsylvania, Kevin Houck of New Jersey, and Cadi Houck (Jack) also of New Jersey, along with seven grandchildren: Alessandra Herington (Alex), Vanessa Fishel (Isaac), Bekah Schmitz (Ryan), Christian Fishel, Madelyn Haegele (Jordan), Garrett Fishel, Jaydin Houck, and three great-grandchildren: Paxton, Frank, and Parker. Chris is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, C. Robert Wynn (Deb) of Pennsylvania, several nieces and nephews, loving extended family, and dear lifelong friends.
Chris was a resident of Raritan Township, NJ for the last 44 years, where she became a beloved figure in her community. Led by her strong faith, she was an active member of the Clinton Baptist Church (now South Ridge Community Church) and later of the Cherryville Baptist Church, sharing her love of music singing in the choir. Through her involvement with the church, she particpated in a number of bible study groups, book clubs, and service organizations. Chris also served as Treasurer of the Cherryville Baptist Women for nearly 10 years.
A multifaceted individual, Chris was an avid bridge player known for her competitive spirit. She loved music and the arts, showcasing her own talent as an amateur artist. She was an animal lover, especially fond of cats, rescuing and raising many generations of them over the years. Loving the warm weather, Chris shared many sunny winters in Crystal River, FL with her late husband, Frank.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, the late Frank W. Houck, Jr., whom she married on August 29, 1964. He passed away suddenly in 2016, significantly impacting her life and family.
Chris leaves behind a legacy of generosity and love that will be cherished by all who had the privilege to know her. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ, where family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate her life and the memories shared.
Visitation with the family will take place from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, immediately followed by a memorial service at 2:00 PM in the funeral home. The family welcomes all who wish to honor Chris’s remarkable life, legacy, and unwavering spirit.
