Christene “Heather” Prant, age 83 years, of Flemington, NJ, peacefully passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Heather was born February 16, 1941, daughter of the late T.T. Gray and Elizabeth MacAvoy Gray Hutton. Heather resided and raised her family with late husband Richard Harold Prant in Franklin Lakes, NJ. Their farm was a center of activity for local Pony Club and several youth church groups. She was devoted to her family, a lover of all God’s creatures great and small, and remarkably generous with time, energy, and all the gifts God gave her. Her house and farm were always filled with the sounds of dogs, birds, and grandchildren. In 2004, Heather and Richard relocated Millbrook Farm to Flemington and all of those traditions and love came with them, still carrying on today.
Many of her favorite memories revolved around spending time with her family in nature, including fly-fishing trips with her son and grandsons, tennis with her husband and friends, and watching her family learn to ride and share the love of horses at their farm. Heather took pride in sharing the beauty of the gardens and Raritan River that ran through the farm, always eager to open her home to anyone who wanted to enjoy it, hosting annual baptisms in the river, fundraising events through the gardens, and countless other celebrations or just lunch and a very strong cup of coffee.
Just a few examples of her volunteerism and the causes she cared about include being an active member and Deacon of the Cherryville Baptist Church and member of the Deeper Life Ministry and Oasis Center in Bergen County. Heather was a dedicated board member of the Wyckoff YMCA and hosted summer camp at Millbrook Farm for Flemington women’s crisis centers.
She is pre-deceased by her dear son, R. Christopher Prant and devoted husband of 62 years, Richard. Surviving are her children Nancy Prant Hooker of Wellington, FL and Sarah Prant Ercolano of Flemington, NJ; eight grandchildren, Charlie Hooker, Heather Hooker Boggio, Gray Prant, Devin Prant Chudley, Griffen Prant, Carlton Prant, Sophia Ercolano, and Antonio Ercolano; two great-grandchildren, Myra Prant and Alice Boggio.
Heather and her family have been so blessed by the loyal caregivers and the incredibly special people at Millbrook Farm that were like family to her.
Cremation services will be held privately under the direction of the Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ. The family plans to hold a Celebration of Life at a later date.
Memorial contributions in Heather’s name may be made to Cherryville Baptist Church, 594 Cherryville Rd, Flemington, NJ 08822 or Safe Harbor Child Access Centers, 115 Main St, Flemington, NJ 08822.
