Barbara B. Herder, former long-time resident of Flemington, NJ, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2024, at the Laurel Circle Retirement Community in Bridgewater Township, NJ. She was 90 years old.
Born in Ringoes, NJ, April 13, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Helen (Rockafellow) Bush. She lived almost the entirety of her life in Flemington, NJ, other than for a brief time recently in Bridgewater, NJ, and in Laredo, TX, and San Antonio, TX, while her husband was stationed there with the United States Air Force.
A graduate of the Flemington High School Class of 1952, Barbara furthered her education by attending both Glassboro State and Rider College. She dedicated her life to being a homemaker, nurturing her family and creating a warm and loving home.
Throughout her life, Barbara engaged in various community activities that reflected her caring spirit and commitment to others. She was a long-time member of the Flemington Baptist Church and was a Girl Scout Brownie leader. Additionally, she was an ardent supporter of "Freedom's Wings," an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of people with physical disabilities. In her spare time, she was an avid reader.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 69 years, Robert H. Herder. She was the loving mother of two children: David Herder of Cambridge, MA, and Linda Zarick, who, along with her husband James, lives in High Point, NC. Additionally, she is survived by her grandson, Jacob Zarick, and his fiancée, Olivia Johnson.
Barbara was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Bush, and by her parents.
Family and friends are invited to a visitation and funeral service at Holcombe-Fisher Funeral Home, 147 Main Street, Flemington, NJ, on Thursday, January 2, 2025. Visitation will take place from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, followed by a funeral service, officiated by Rev. Mayra Castañeda, starting at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow at Three Bridges Reformed Church Cemetery, located at 470 Main Street, Three Bridges, NJ.
