Alberta P. Harford

August 8, 1938 — August 23, 2025

Flemington, NJ

Alberta P. Harford, born on August 8, 1938, in Trenton, NJ, left this world on August 23, 2025, in Flemington, NJ, leaving behind a legacy of love and joy that will be cherished by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife to her husband, Jack "Rudy" Harford, with whom she shared countless happy moments, including cherished days spent with family at the Jersey shore.

A remarkable bookkeeper, Alberta started her professional career at Bell Telephone company and ultimately worked with her beloved husband Rudy at Zero Surge Inc. for the remainder of her career life. As much as Alberta thrived in her career, it was her personal life where she truly flourished. She possessed a nurturing spirit, caring deeply for her family and friends, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. Her understanding nature could effortlessly cheer someone up when they were feeling down, a rare and invaluable gift and human being.

Alberta had numerous hobbies and interests. Her vast knowledge of birds and plants were a testament to her intelligence and joy in her interests. Alberta was an accomplished seamstress, creating beautifully sewn garments and needlepoint treasures for her family. Her love for the bounty of nature was evident in her flourishing vegetable and flower gardens; she found beauty in the simple things, collecting items such as feathers, wildflowers, and other natural treasures.

An affection for animals filled her home, where she lovingly cared for her chickens and cats. Her pride as a 4H club leader and in showing prize-winning chickens with her daughter at the Hunterdon County 4H Fair is a testament to her dedication to her furry and feathered friends. In the evenings, Alberta could often be found listening to hill-billy music, polkas, or the sweet melodies of artists such as Linda Ronstadt, enveloping herself in the joy those tunes brought her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, J. Rudy Harford; her son, Mark Harford and his life partner, Laura Lee Mills of Red Bank, NJ; her daughter, Cindy and son-in-law Martin Spence of Saddle River, NJ; her daughter Amanda and son-in-law Ricardo Rodriguez of Hillsborough, NJ; and her beloved grandchildren, Veronika, Katharine, Emily, Maren, Christian, and Steffen, and great-grandchild, Norah, as well as her sisters, Lorraine Van Hise and Patricia (Ray) Sziber.

Alberta now joins her deceased family members: her parents, Albert and Pauline (Dempsey) Parkinson; her beloved son, Eric R. Harford, who passed in 2008; her sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Joe Maurer; and her brother-in-law, Arthur Van Hise. Their memories will forever remain a pivotal part of her legacy.

As we remember Alberta, we celebrate a woman whose life was defined by kindness, passion, and an unyielding love for her family. They will carry her spirit within them, a guiding light as they navigate the world she so dearly cherished.
